West coast, the West side of Jacksonville Florida, Women, Wine, Winning, Wansformers, Watman, Wavengers, Widerman (yuck), Wild Style, Wu Tang and Willie Evans Jr.
I threw the W up(load).
Wild Style is a classic in the realm of hiphop for a few reasons. One is that its a snapshot of the era that made us fall in love with hiphop in the first place. The general disposition of hiphop culture (the good and bad aspects) is a direct derivative of the atmosphere you see in this film. In addition to that, there are several legendary cameos and performances in the film. Not to mention that, for a lot of us, is was our first time seeing graffiti being depicted as a true art form that had all of the ups, downs, and tough decisions a true art form throws on to an artist. And the basketball court…..I won’t spoil it…I’ll just say the basketball court.
Having explained why I believe its a classic, I can now go on to say that (in true hiphop fashion) I’ll be mangling the movie to bits in a short performance before the film is shown in its entirety at Sunray Cinema in Jacksonville Florida.

Wuddup!

So I finally found a minute to finish Johnny Hiro (from Fred Chao). I’m not sure how much I can say without spoiling but I will say that I definitely liked it. Essentially, you follow Jihnny Hiro’s misadventures which have been sprinkled with crack and injected with a dosage of steroids. Good stuff. And I definitely want to see what Hiro gets thrown into next. I’d love to see Toshi come back and make a serious play for Mayumi. So many things could spin off of that conflict. Either way, I’ll be checking for the next one. And you should check for this one!

Wondering what I’ve been up to lately? Of course you haven’t! But I’m gonna tell you anyway. Currently reading this: Johnny Hiro from Fred Chao. Oh what’s that? There’s an Asamov quote on the first page? I hadn’t even noticed! As soon as I stop shoving the first page into every friend’s face I’m gonna dive into it.

Side note: Also following the AvX and the Xmen with Wolverine as the headmaster. Suggestions are welcome.

In addition to that, I managed to knock off Seasons 1 & 2 of Game of Thrones in the last couple of weeks. Incidentally I’ve been doing that while working on a tremendous amount of music/projects so I apologize in advance if my reflection on social maneuvering is heavy handed in upcoming things.

Speaking of which:

Those who know me know that I’ve been messing around with video in an odd way for a long time now. Well I think I’m finally about to put out an entire project doing this. To clarify, it will be an entire album of things like this:

A lot of beats. A lot of raps. A lot of doing something that no one has done before. Which is nerve racking because of the uncertainty of how people will receive it. But I’ll say this. I’ve been working up to doing a project like this since Asamov and, although this won’t be the full blown realization of where I want to take it, I couldn’t be more amped for this to be the jump off point. Oh, and its called The Beat Tape From Mars.

In order for it to actually hit your eyeballs I’ll have to stop working on it at some point which means there will be overflow. Its likely that I’ll be posting that here so stay tuned.

So the last time I was in Atlanta I had a blast as usual. The homie Dillon Maurer looked out (he the consummate cook, host, and rapper). Tribe One (keep your eye on him), Megaran, and The Thought Criminals tore it down. Not to mention the fact that Black Angel made me a Wizard Pillow.

Well after months of magical dreams, I’m gonna be back in Atlanta with brother Paten Locke. That’s right Dumbtron, who’s first set ever was at Soundset, will be doing they’re second set in Atlanticus!!!
